Date: Tuesday, May 28, 2013 Time: 7:30am - 9:30am Chapter Meeting - Enabling Strategic Growth through a Global Broadband Compensation Structure The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) is the largest producer of quality chocolate in North America and a global leader in chocolate and sugar confectionery. Founded in 1894 and headquartered in Hershey, PA, The Hershey Company now has operations throughout the world and approximately 14,000 employees with revenues of more than $6 billion and growing. As part of the publicly communicated growth plans of The Hershey Company, business leaders & HR professionals were tasked with implementing a talent strategy to drive that growth. One element of that talent strategy would be a compensation philosophy & structure that would enable employee development & movement, as opposed to strict vertical promotion. The previous compensation structure was more than 25 years old, had over 100 salary grades across the globe, and did not integrate with employee development programs. Internal compensation processes were accurate, but slow and cumbersome. This presentation will examine how Human Resources and business leadership at The Hershey Company designed and delivered an overhaul of its global compensation system. The final outcome will be shared including the new global broadband structure, how the broadband structure was designed to promote the organization’s business strategy, change management techniques utilized throughout the design and implementation stages, processes used to evaluate over 5,000 jobs, and how leaders utilized involvement of business stakeholders. Chris was the Project Lead for design & implementation of Hershey’s Global Broadbands, which converted legacy salary grade system with over 100 individual grades to a globally consistent broadband structure with 5 bands & 10 levels. Previously he was an HR Lead for the $850 million project to reconfigure Hershey’s North American manufacturing footprint, including 3 plant start ups and multiple plant closings. His expertise also includes significant HR experience in Canada and Mexico, plus labor expertise including negotiation of over 25 labor contracts.
