Membership Benefits
Programs
We encourage all members to attend our monthly chapter meetings to network, expand their knowledge of topical HR issues and become familiar with important resources. Meetings are usually held the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Penn Grant Centre, 777 East Park Drive, Harrisburg. Meetings begin with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 9:30 a.m., after a time of networking and dynamic presentations relative to "hot" HR topics. Most of our programs are approved for recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute.
Professional Development
Certification
We strongly encourage the pursuit of ongoing professional development. The body of knowledge required to remain effective in the HR field evolves continuously. Our chapter enthusiastically supports professional certification through the Human Resources Certification Institute by sponsoring an annual member certification study group and encouraging member participation in the Villanova University Certification Study Course, and by offering discounted pricing for a self-study alternative.
Mentoring Program
HRP of Central PA's newest membership benefit, the Mentoring Program, provides assistance for professionals to move ahead in their careers. The program is designed to offer long term and short term "project" oriented mentoring relationships. HRP is currently building its data base of mentors for this new program. Community Involvement
Our members serve the regional community through our involvement with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Chapter at Messiah College and through our Vice President's membership on the Board of Directors of the Capital Region School to Work Partnership.
Legal/Legislative
We encourage our membership to be involved in the federal and state legislative and legal process. Each month, Kevin Gold, Esq, our Legislative Director, provides our membership with legal updates. Annually, we hold a Legal & Legislative Conference to keep our members apprised of recent legal changes along with updates of current legislation being considered at the Federal & State levels. Our next Legal & Legislative Conference will be in October 2007.
Technology
Members receive regular e-grams with timely information about upcoming programs, events and legislation. In addition, our web site is updated with current information about the chapter. Members can post HR-related job postings on the Web Site for free.
Diversity
Not only is HRP of Central PA committed to the traditional objectives of equal opportunity, we also enthusiastically seek to promote a diverse membership in terms of the sectors, industries and organizations in which our members are employed. Our belief is that a diverse membership provides the greatest opportunity for valuable networking and creative thinking.
National Affiliation
Although not a requirement for membership, we encourage all members of HRP of Central PA to also belong to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Membership in SHRM has many benefits that only a national organization with over 190,000 members can provide. If you are interested in joining SHRM, visit http://www.shrm.org/
HRP of Central PA Membership
